Special Needs Music

I am a mother of a boy with ADHD and who's also on the autism spectrum. We built this program to cater to children and adults with special needs. Ever since, I found music very helpful to my child.

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy interventions can address a variety of healthcare and educational goals.

Who is it for?
No previous musical experience is necessary in order for someone to attend music therapy. Everyone can benefit.

Children with special needs (5-18 years old)
Developmental and learning disabilities
Someone experiencing depression ( up to 18 yrs old.)

Some of the activities are the same with the early childhood music playgroup. The difference is that while music education focuses on improving musical skills, special needs music class or music therapy session focuses on improving non-musical skills. The therapist will be concerned more of the functional skills as to motor skills. Children and adults don’t realize they are working on critical, functional skills; they are just enjoying making music! Music Therapy can facilitate skill development in the cognitive, communication, social/emotional and motor/physical domains... to name a few.

Music has the capacity to trigger every soul, the normal brain or to that someone with special needs. And so it can be an incredible tool in the education and socialization of children with special needs.
